In the United States, the Wire Act and other federal laws have been used to prosecute individuals and companies for conducting unlawful Internet gambling. One such instance is the case of the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Ass’n v. Attorney General.
The case involves the United States government’s attempt to bring charges against Internet poker operators. It alleges that they facilitated money laundering. Moreover, the case has raised the question of how the First Amendment guarantees free speech and the Commerce Clause.
Online gambling has become increasingly popular in the past several years, with gaming sites allowing people to wager on the outcome of major sporting events. Several sites also offer traditional casino games. A wide variety of gambling games is available on the Internet, including blackjack, roulette, and poker. Other gambling games are sports betting, bingo, and scratch card games.

Additionally, the Travel Act has been implicated by players who use interstate facilities to engage in unlawful activities. The Department of Justice is currently investigating and examining the regulations governing Internet gambling.
As a result of these issues, the United States government has made efforts to limit the activities of the Internet gambling industry. There have been multiple bills introduced in Congress to soften the federal Internet gambling law.
Nevertheless, the Department of Justice has taken steps to protect the interests of citizens by preventing financial instruments from being accepted from illegal Internet bets. It has also issued a warning to PayPal. Despite these efforts, the Fifth Circuit disagreed with the Department of Justice.
Interestingly, the Indian Gaming Act does not contain any provisions regarding Online Gambling. That has not stopped state officials from expressing concerns about the possibility that the Internet can be used to transport illegal gambling into their jurisdictions.
